Eugene Sowers, 84, of Shamokin Dam PA passed away peacefully surrounded by
his family on Thursday evening, April 19, 2018 at home. He was born January
22, 1934 in Harrisburg PA the son of the late Samuel Elmer and Frances
graduated from Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg PA in 1951.
served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean
employed by the Federal Government at Kelly Air Force Base in Logistics
Command in San Antonio Texas, from where he retired. Ron was also well
known locally as being the “over-seer” at the Good Will’s Restaurant where
he greeted people with warm hospitality.
earlier years he was a Youth Sports Coach in Texas. While living in Texas
he was the Past Master of the Helotes Lodge 1429 and served as President of
the Lions Club; he was also a member of Pilgrim’s Chapter of the Order of
DeMolay in Harrisburg PA and was also President of the Rescue Fire Company
#37 in Susquehanna Township in Harrisburg from 1963-1964.
enjoyed cooking and loved to fish and camp with his son whom he adored. His
greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family who fondly
remember him as a “great whistler” and lover of jelly beans.
survived by one son, Todd Eric Sowers and his companion Marilyn of Shamokin
Dam PA. He is also survived by four very dear people in his life;
Elizabeth, Adrenna, Ryan and Nathan. Also surviving are several nieces and
preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Gathering of Friends to be held on
Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Visneski Funeral
Home, Inc. 42 West Mahoning Street Danville PA. Burial and Military
Honors will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Indiantown Gap
National Cemetery Annville PA.
