Wilbur G. "Jim" Kelley

March 25, 2018

Wilbur G. “Jim” Kelley of Danville, PA, slipped quietly into the presence of his savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA. He was born May 14, 1930 in Muncy PA, the son of the late Wilbur George and Mary Young Kelley.

He was a devoted husband for 68 years to the love of his life, Phyllis J. Hummel Kelley.  They were married December 20, 1949.

Jim served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as a heavy artillery operator from 1948-1952.

He was employed at TRW for twenty years in several positions including General Foreman of Inspection.  Then he was the proprietor for Kelley’s Sunoco Service Station for several years.  In 1981, he worked at Geisinger Medical Center as a Supervisor in Housekeeping and as Laundry Manager, retiring in 1994.

He was well known in the community serving as Borough Councilman and as President of the Danville Borough Council.  Jim also umpired for the Little League and American Legion Baseball for 17 years.  In January of 2001 he worked for State Representative Robert E. Belfanti, Jr.

Jim was a member of First Baptist Church Danville PA where he served on the Board of Trustees and on the Building Committee for the new church presently located in Valley Township.  He was also a member of the Danville American Legion in Danville PA.

Jim’s greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his wife and family.  He was an avid sports fan, including baseball, football and wrestling as well as NASCAR.

His quiet selflessness, dignity, sense of humor and service to others will be missed greatly as he holds a special place in the hearts of his family, whom he adored.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Colin P. Kelley and his wife Cindy of Danville PA and two daughters; Christine M. Griffith and her husband Gary of Lewisburg PA and Julia A. Huntington and her husband Robert of Danville PA.    Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by two brothers; Albert “Sonny” Kelley of S. Williamsport PA and Richard Donald “Donnie” Kelley as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John “Jack” Kelley and one sister, Shirley “Sis” Wagner.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Wilbur “Jim’s” life to be held Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 11:00AM at First Baptist Church 12 Brookside Drive Danville PA (Off 642E) with the Reverend Dawes J. Dunham officiating assisted by the Reverend Dr. Harry H. Wonderland.   Friends will be received from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at the church. Burial will be held in Elan Memorial Park in Bloomsburg PA.  Military rites will be accorded by the Danville American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard.
