Patricia Driscoll Ackerman

Patricia Driscoll Ackerman, 78, of Danville, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home on Saturday, July 28, 2018.  She was born October 10, 1939 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of Robert Emmett and Harriet Henderson Driscoll.  

Mrs. Ackerman is a 1957 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Mansfield, OH and received a B.A. in English from The Ohio State University in 1961, where she was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta national sorority. She also completed additional graduate work at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. 

Pat was married for 57 years to the love of her life, F. Kenneth Ackerman Jr., a devoted and loving husband, whom she married December 17, 1960. 

Mrs. Ackerman lived her dream of teaching English and Literature to high school students with honor and distinction for nearly 25 years. She concluded her teaching career at Danville Area High School in Danville, PA, where she retired in 2001. 

She lived a life committed to community service. Pat was a dedicated and proud member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, Danville, PA, where she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and chair of the Altar Guild.  She also served as chairperson of the Thomas Beaver Free Library Board of Directors.  “The Pat Ackerman Guys and Girls Read Program”, a joint collaboration between the Thomas Beaver Free Library and the Danville Area School District, was founded in honor of Mrs. Ackerman in 2014.  She was also a member of the Geisinger Auxiliary.   Pat taught in the Head Start Program for the poor and disadvantaged and also provided leadership for the child abuse initiative in Montour County. In 2016, The Danville Area Community Foundation awarded Pat, along with her husband, The Robert N. Pursel Award for a lifetime of distinguished community service. 

Pat will be warmly remembered by all who knew and loved her as a classy lady with a beautiful spirit and personality; her ever-present smile, her love of reading,

and her love of dogs.  She will be greatly missed by her family whom she adored.  

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons; Kenneth (Michelle) of Rochester, MN, Christian (Karen) of Crozet, VA, and Peter (Beth) of Madison, CT, as well as 10 grandchildren. Mrs. Ackerman also leaves behind her lone sibling Timothy Driscoll and his wife Dee, of Davidson, NC.   In addition to her husband and children, she leaves behind many who are both immensely thankful for her presence in their lives and inspired by her example. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend an open reception which will be held at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church 120 E. Market St. Danville, PA Thursday, August 2, 2018   from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. A Celebration of Pat’s Life will be held Friday, August 3, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church with Father Jim Strader-Sasser officiating.  Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
