John Boy Sorensen

December 25, 2018

John Boy Sorensen, 68, of Riverside, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

He was born July, 28, 1950 in Jamaica, New York, the son of the late John E. and Angela L. (Arado) Sorensen.

John attended Blair Academy in Blairstown, NJ and graduated from East Stroudsburg High School.  He attended East Stroudsburg University and graduated from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.  He continued his education at Marywood University where he proudly earned his Master of Social Work.

John worked many years as a carpenter with his family and also at Geisinger Medical Center in the construction department, a Nuclear Plant Operator at PP&L, and most recently as a professional therapist counseling high risk adolescents and adults.  He took great pride in helping others both personally and professionally. He was a builder of things and also of people.  John was a member of the Sandy Run Hunting Camp and a former exalted ruler of the Danville Elks club.

John was a caring, soft hearted giver who loved his family deeply.  He was a positive person naturally, committed to smiling at all those he came in contact with, and he was dedicated to helping people and animals alike.  He sincerely took an interest in the lives and heartaches of others and was happy to lend an ear and a helping hand.  He was light hearted in laughter and loved playing and telling mischievous jokes.  He took great joy in gardening and was happy to share his beautiful flowers with others.  His gladiolas and hybrid Asiatic lilies were a sight and smell to behold.

He is survived by his wife, Libby Sorensen whom he married in July 7, 2012.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Britta Sorensen and her husband Kent Kobayashi of Salt Lake City, Utah and their four children; his son Jazz Sorensen and his wife Micci of Redding, California and their four children; his step daughter Amy Canzanella of Long Island, NY and her two children; and his step daughter Jessica Klopp and her husband Brian of Riverside, PA and their two children.  Also surviving are his sisters Joan Morris of Southbury, CT; Judi Bendixen and her husband Karl of Pocono Summit, PA; Joyce Primrose and her husband Frank of Culpepper, VA, along with numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his precious niece; Amy L. Primrose and his cherished grandchild, Maxwell V. Sorensen.

A private family service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Johnís memory to Danville SPCA 1467 Bloom Road Danville PA  17821.
