David Eugene Cooke

David Eugene Cooke, 64, of Danville, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday morning, October 13, 2018 after a valiant battle with cancer at his residence.  He was born December 2, 1953 in Danville PA, the son of Luther Lee and Lois Jane Walker Cooke of Danville PA.

David graduated from Danville High School in 1971.  In earlier years, he was an Eagle Scout, the highest achievement rank attainable in Boy Scouting.   He especially enjoyed the challenges attending Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

He was married for 45 years to Karyn Sue Champion Cooke, who survives.  They were married May 11, 1973.

David was employed as a heavy equipment operator for PennDot for 33 years, retiring in 2007.

He was a member of St. Paulís Straubís Lutheran Church in Danville PA.  His other memberships included AFSCME and the Buckhorn Hunting Camp

His family was the stable foundation of his life.  He was the greatest fan of his grandchildren in all of the sports they participated. He was a private, humble man who loved remodeling his home and woodworking.  He also enjoyed cruises and spending time with his dog and faithful companion, Toby. 

In addition to his wife and his parents, he is survived by one son; Nathan Lee Cooke and his wife Angela of Bellefonte PA and one daughter, Michele Lynn Sharrow and her husband Mark of Numidia PA.  Also surviving are six grandchildren whom he treasured; Kirstein, Paige, Tyler, Jocelyn, Hunter and Wesley.  He is also survived by one brother, Mark W. Cooke and his wife Chris of Shickshinny PA; five sisters-in-law, one brother in-law and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Davidís memory to the St. Paulís Straubís Lutheran Cemetery Association 639 Frosty Valley Road Danville PA  17821 or Trinity United Methodist Church 300 Sixth Street Northumberland PA  17857.
