M. Wray, 62, of Danville, PA, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017 at her
home. She was born August 28, 1954 in Hugoton, KS, the daughter of Loren A.
and Wilma R. Schechter.
was a 1972 graduate of Hugoton High School, followed by a short stint at
Sterling College in Sterling, KS before she married fellow student Paul
E. Bench. They lived in Dubuque IA, Brookings SD, Tridelphia WV,
Bellefonte PA, Wellsboro PA, and Watsontown PA before divorcing. In
1997 Rita received her Associates Degree in Office Information Systems
from Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA. While
enrolled, Rita fell in love with her accounting professor, Gideon J.
Wray, and they were married October 18, 1998 and settled in Danville,
PA. Rita went on to work as a secretary for the federal government and
then in HR for the Shikellamy School District. Rita enjoyed spending
time with her beloved pets, reading, gardening, sewing, scrapbooking,
and doting on her grandson.
was preceded in death by her husband Gideon who passed away in 2010 and
her brother Michael R. Schechter who passed away in 2016. She is
survived by five Schechter brothers (Hal, Jack, Rex, Ron, and Tom) and
their families, as well as by her daughter Michaela R. Bowers,
son-in-law Russ, grandson Zeke, and soon-to-be-born granddaughter.
celebration of Rita’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday
July 8, 2017 at Stonington Baptist Church,
2113 Hosta Rd,
Paxinos, PA, with the Rev. J. Douglas
Hallman Sr. officiating. Private burial will be in the church
cemetery. Memorial contributions may include registering to be an
organ donor and/or monetary donations to PSC Partners (http://pscpartners.org/donate/),
a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education and
support to Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) patients, families
and caregivers and to raising funds to research causes, treatments
and cures for this rare disease. Rita and her mother both succumbed
to this debilitating liver disease, and Rita found comfort, support,
and commiseration from PSC Partners.
