Nancy Jayne Hodge

Nancy Jayne Hodge, 84, of 9 Montgomery Village, Danville, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.  She was born on October 5, 1932 in Meadville, PA, the daughter of the late C. Dayle Keefer and Sara M. Sorg DeRoss. 

Nancy was married for 42 years to the late Richard F. Hodge who preceded her in death October 1, 1998.  They were married March 17, 1956. 

She graduated from Linesville High School in 1951. 

Nancy was a self-employed caterer for 10 years.   She taught cake decorating at the YWCA in Meadville, PA.  She and her husband were co-owners of the IGA Food Market in Harmonsburg, PA from 1970-1972. From 1987 until 1991, Nancy was employed as an insurance clerk for a physical therapist in Charleston, South Carolina.  Since moving to Danville, she had been employed by Weis Markets and the Bloomsburg Fair Association as a ticket seller.  She also thoroughly enjoyed working at Knoebel’s catering. 

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Danville where she served in Vacation Bible School and enjoyed helping in the kitchen.  Nancy was a volunteer for the American Red Cross in Danville, PA and was an Election Judge for Mahoning Township. 

Nancy was an avid and very proud Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed attending their games.  She loved to bake, enjoyed sewing, crocheting and ceramics. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family.  

She is survived by one daughter; Robin L. Hodge of Danville and their beloved dog Mia and one son; Dayle E. Hodge and his significant other, Kathleen A. Zottmann of Columbia, Maryland. Also surviving are two granddaughters; Erin C. Hodge and her partner Leah B. Walker of Baltimore MD and Callie J-M Hodge of Columbus Ohio.  Nancy is also survived by eight brothers; Charles C. DeRoss of Florida; Michael D. Keefer of Meadville, PA, Charles J. Keefer of San Diego, CA, David D. Keefer of Erie, PA, Rev. Dayle F. Keefer of Jamestown, NY, Rev. Richard D. Keefer of Jamestown, NY, James E. Keefer of Georgia and Joel A. Keefer of Raleigh, NC and one sister; Rosanne S. Kinsey of Nashville, NC.  

She was preceded in death by two brothers; Gerald K. DeRoss and James E. DeRoss and one sister; Sally A. Moore. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Nancy’s Life to be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church 20 Brookside Drive (off 642 East) Danville PA.  Friends will be received from 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM.    

Services will also be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Harmonsburg United Methodist Church 14182 1st Street Harmonsburg PA.  Friends will be received from 11:30 AM until 12:45 PM.   Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Harmonsburg, PA. 

At Nancy’s request, please wear Phillies attire or colors.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial Contributions may be made in her honor to Charles F. Sorg Youth Memorial Fund c/o Harmonsburg United Methodist Church, 14182 1st Street, Harmonsburg, PA 16422.
