Catherine L. Wintersteen, 94, formerly of 2 Logan Street Danville PA and of
RD#2 Catawissa PA passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Emmanuel
Nursing Center Danville PA where she had resided since March. She was born
December 29, 1922 in Riverside PA the daughter of the late Charles J. and
Emma C. Wintersteen Hower.
was married for 64 years to the late James A. Wintersteen who preceded her
in death in 1994. They were married on November 3, 1940.
graduated from Danville High School with Honors.
Catherine was a selfless, faithful and dedicated housewife. Her family was
at the heart of all she did and gave her much delight throughout her
was a member of St. Peterís United Methodist Church in Riverside PA where
she participated in Bible Studies, United Methodist Women, and faithfully
served with serving meals, helping with Ice Cream Socials and making
donuts. Her other memberships included the Klinesgrove Methodist Church and
Ladies of the Golden Eagles.
enjoyed cooking, birdwatching and flower gardening. Catherine had a deep
passion for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and it was her joy to
participate in the lives of them all. Many loving memories will be
cherished by her family whom she adored.
survived by five sons; James M. Wintersteen and his wife Cheryl of Sunbury
PA, Douglas S. Wintersteen and his wife Carol of Catawissa PA; Curtiss D.
Wintersteen and his wife Kathy of Bloomsburg PA; Eric G. Wintersteen and his
wife Lisa of Grimesland NC and Rodger C. Wintersteen and his fiancť Gina
Bross of Danville PA and one daughter; Emma Kay Shalongo of Danville PA.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; Annette, Beth Ann, Scottie,
Jeffrey, Evette, Adam, Megan, Katie, Eric, Tierney, Shane, Siobhan and
Michael and 11 great-grandchildren; James, Brett, Chelsea, Ian, Amanda, Ty,
Noel, Fletcher, Mia, McKinley and Tilly and 2 great-great grandchildren,
Veron and Kaylee. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter; Christine
Kay Wintersteen. One brother, Charles Ira Hower also preceded her in
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held on
Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Peterís United Methodist Church 240
Sunbury Road Riverside PA with the Reverend Dr. Donald Hurley officiating.
Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM. Burial will follow
in Klinesgrove United Methodist Church Cemetery Klinesgrove PA.
The family will provide
