William Richard Smedley, 74, of Woodbridge VA and formerly of Danville PA
passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 in North Arlington VA. “Bill” was born
May 7, 1940 in Danville PA the son of the late Hattie E. and William
served in the Field Artillery of United States Army, in Germany, Korea, and
Vietnam; retiring after 20 years. He worked as a manager at the Goodyear
plant in Lawton Oklahoma for many years, retiring and moving back to New
Jersey, after the passing of his wife. He earned a license as a boat
captain, helped out at the Great Bay Marina, and spent many days fishing and
teaching his grandchildren to fish.
survived by one son, William Scott Smedley and his wife Danielle of
Woodbridge VA. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Sydney, Aaron, and
Cayden. He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Carolyn, in 2001
and by one sister, Emma Costa in 2014.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service to be held
Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Fairview Cemetery Danville PA with
the Reverend Nancy Shank, Christ Memorial Episcopal Church officiating.
Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard.
