Peter Todd Hesbacher

Peter Todd Hesbacher, 78, of Danville PA went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Emmanuel Nursing Center at Maria Joseph Danville PA.  He was born September 10, 1936 in Grand Rapids MI to the late Dr. Edwin Newton Hesbacher and Gretchen Wolcott Todd Hesbacher.   

He was married for 25 years to the former Pauline Louise Smedley.  They were married December 2, 1989.   

His father, Dr. Hesbacher, was a Dermatologist with the US Public Health Service whose last tour of duty was in Burma, now Myanmar.  Pete did his junior year and part of his senior year at Cody-Woodstock Christian International School in Mussoorie India.  Dr. Hesbacher then  moved with his family to Danville in 1953, where Peter did his senior year at Danville High School with the Class of 1954, and was elected President of the Senior class by his peers.  Following graduation he studied at Dartmouth College graduating in 1958, and went on to earn his PhD in Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania.  He stayed on as associate professor of Sociology and Psychiatry for 14 years.  Pete  was also a Research Associate at Philadelphia General Hospital.  He amassed a collection of over 100,000 hit records while doing statistical analysis of hit record trends for Billboard Magazine.  He is also credited with over 100 publications in Popular Music and Society and medical journals.  In 1984 he joined a colleague in the investment business where he enjoyed a successful career until his retirement at the age of 70. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters; Lark A. (Kevin) Tyler of HoHoKus NJ and Gretchen Hesbacher of Washington DC and two sons; Todd (LeeAnne) Hesbacher and Jordan (Lisa) Hesbacher, both of Philadelphia and two stepdaughters; Elaine (Paul) Venarchick of Danville PA and Diane (Alan) Buck of Colorado Springs CO.  His grandchildren include Ben and Emily Tyler, Rachel, Andrew, Riley Hesbacher, Lukas Hesbacher, and twins Theodore and Elsa Hesbacher; step-grandchildren, Brian (Sarah) Venarchick, Robin (Gary) Valiquette, Rebecca (Wayne) Hawley, Jennifer (Jim) DeGaetano Jr., Jeramy Melchiorre, Kristen Melchiorre, and Angelo (Hannah) Melchiorre; step great-grandchildren, Chelsey, Aimee and Cassie Valiquette, Belanna and Daniel Hawley, Keaton and Evan Venarchick, Jude and Christian Melchiorre, Anna DeGaetano, and great-great-granddaughters, Isabella and Evelynn. 

He was preceded in death by one brother, Edwin Newton Hesbacher, Jr. (Ted). 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Requiem Mass to be held Monday, April 13, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church 120 East Market Street Danville PA with the Reverend Nancy Shank officiating.  Burial will be private at the Episcopal Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Memorial Episcopal Church PO Box 363 Danville PA or Thomas Beaver Free Library 205 Ferry Street Danville PA 17821.
