Joan E. Major

Joan E. Major,73, of 1037 Elm Road Shamokin PA went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, September 9, 2015 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA.  She was born December 7, 1941 in Chester PA the daughter of the late George and Irma  Walters Titus. 

She graduated in 1960 from Chichester High School in Boothwyn PA. 

Joan was married for 42 years to Walter Major, who survives.  They were married September 22, 1972. 

Joan was a homemaker, a cake decorator and a house cleaner.  She also was employed by Conchester Veterinary Hospital and as a Security Guard in the Brandywine River Museum in Chadsford PA from where she retired. 

She was a member of the Ogden Baptist Church in Boothwyn PA and Stonington Baptist Church in Stonington PA where she served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and an Awana leader.  She was also a member of the Chichester Alumni Band and the Sunbury City Band.  

Joan was an avid music lover.  She loved working with her hands with crafting and gardening.  She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren whom she was very proud of.   

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters; Patricia Race and her husband Todd of Adams NY and Connie Major, at home.  She is also survived by four sisters; Marian Lynch and her husband Dennis of Conyers GA; Claire Bradford and her husband Jim of Leesburg FL; her twin sister Joyce Smith and her husband Frank of Shamokin PA and Janet Major and her husband Don of Boothwyn PA.   Also surviving are three grandchildren; Julia Race and Aidan and Wyatt Race.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.   

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services to be held Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Stonington Baptist Church 2113 Hosta Road Stonington PA (off of Route 61) with the Reverend J. Douglas Hallman officiating.  Burial will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park Sunbury PA.  Friends will be received from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM at the church.  The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Shamokin Pregnancy Care Center 150 S. Market Street Shamokin PA  17872.
