Gertrude A. "Gertie" Snyder

Gertrude A. "Gertie" Snyder, 88, of Danville PA and formerly of Stroudsburg PA passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA.  She was born July 1, 1926 in Maspeth, Queens, NY, the daughter of the late Carl and Anna Barnklau Adelmann. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, A. Richard Snyder on January 2, 1987.  They were married September 13, 1948.   In the beginning of their married life they thoroughly enjoyed farming together. 

Gertie graduated from Stroudsburg High School in 1944. 

She was employed as a secretary and held many office positions with Crewe Insurance, Pocono Metal Products, Sun Litho and Sentry/Custom Services and Gray Chevrolet; all of Stroudsburg PA.   

Gertie was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church while in Stroudsburg PA and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Danville PA. 

One of Gertie's greatest enjoyments was volunteering her time to the American Cancer Society as a driver of the Daffodil Express in 1987, as an office volunteer in 1990, Assistant Treasurer in 1991, Board Member in 1991 and Treasurer in 1992.  She also served as a Reach to Recovery Coordinator and served on the Daffodil Tree Committee for two years and was a member of the Service and Rehabilitation Committee.  Gertie was chosen as "Volunteer of the Year" by the American Cancer Society in 1993. 

In recent years, she was a volunteer and resident escort for Maria Joseph Manor and the Emmanuel Nursing Center.  She was also secretary of the Meadows Council, Chairperson of the Meadows Social Committee and volunteer telephone attendant at Meadows Community Center.  

She was a talented seamstress, an avid reader, loved camping and gardening and doing crossword puzzles.  Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family. 

She is survived by one son, Larry W. Snyder and his longtime companion, Sandy Grant of Edgartown MA and one daughter, Debbi Servose of Northumberland PA and her longtime partner Kiley Moyer.  Also surviving are four granddaughters; Melonie Schmid and her husband Paul, Courtney Snyder, and Jaclyn and Danae Servose; two great-grandsons Nathan Schmid and Chase Snyder and one great-granddaughter, Isabella Snyder.  She is also survived by three brothers; Alfred Adelmann and his wife Carol and Robert Adelmann; both of Stroudsburg PA and Walter Adelmann and his wife Anne of Ocean City NJ.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor in 1934 and one brother, Carl Adelmann, Jr. in 2002.  She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law Giovanna Adelmann. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held Friday, May 1, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Luke's Catholic Church 818 Main Street Stroudsburg PA with the Reverend Carmen J. Perry as celebrant.  Burial will follow in Laurelwood Cemetery Stroudsburg PA.  The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association 57 North Franklin Street Wilkes-Barre PA  18701 or online at www.alzpa.org or The American Cancer Society PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City OK  73123 or online at cancer.org/givehope.
