Kathy Black Diehl (AKA The Wizard of Paws), 56, flew over the rainbow like
the free bird she has always been, on Friday, November 14, 2014. She was a
strong, hardworking, devoted, fearless, and beloved mother, wife,
grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Kathy was born in Danville, PA on August 22, 1958, the daughter of the late
Anna Weigold Black and Sterling Black, of Danville. She traveled extensively
before settling down in the Danville area.
A graduate of Danville High School in 1976, Kathy worked for many years as a
Medical Transcriptionist at the Geisinger Medical Center before attending
school in Philadelphia to realize her lifelong dream of working with
animals. She became a world class dog groomer, and opened her shop, "The
Wizard of Paws" in 1994. "The Wizard" also boarded her four legged friends,
and partnered in the establishment of a no-kill shelter, Karamber's Canine
Rescue, which operated out of her grooming shop. An involved member of the
local Animal Resource Center as well, Kathy adored all animals, and crusaded
tirelessly to save the lives of her furry friends.
She also enjoyed gardening, music, motorcycles, dancing, Montour County
history, and vacationing in Key West, but she was most passionate about
spending time with her seven grandchildren. Kathy was the life of any party,
and her smile and laughter brightened the lives of so many. She had a heart
of gold, and was always there for her friends and family; a true blessing in
the lives of all who knew her.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Dave, who shared 38 years with her. Also
surviving are her sons; Todd Summers (Jenny) of Mingoville, PA, and Ty Diehl
(Bonnie) of Bloomsburg, PA; her grandchildren; Andrew, Austin, Araelia,
Anthony, Asher, Abram, and Jax; her step-mother; Elizabeth Nevius; her
brother; Tom Black; her sisters; Carol Westwood, Lois Baylor, Sherry Black,
and Christine Rossnock; as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Mae West once said, "you only live once, but if you do it right, once is
enough", and Kathy knew how to do it right. She will be forever missed by
her family and friends, but never forgotten. Kathy, we love you so much...
forever and always!
