M. Pursel, 93, of 211 Dewart Street Riverside PA went home to be with his
Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 16, 2014. He was born May 26, 1921 in
Riverside PA the son of the late Archie and Eva Kutz Pursel.
graduated from Danville High School in 1939.
served his country with the United States Navy Seabees during World War II.
married for 72 years to Leona Foust Pursel whom he married May 9, 1942.
employed as an electrician for Kennedy Van Saun for 45 years, retiring in
1986. Jim also served as a Riverside Borough Councilman for 30 years.
was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church in Riverside PA. He
was also a member of the Blossburg Rod and Gun Club, Danville Moose,
Danville American Legion, Danville VFW and all of the area fire companies.
was an avid hunter and enjoyed bowling. He was a great storyteller of years
gone by which always delighted his family, whom he adored.
addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James A. Pursel and his
wife Victoria of Riverside PA and Jeffrey Scott Pursel and his companion
Jodi Campbell of Riverside PA and three daughters; Carol Fry and her husband
Ronnie of Riverside PA; Debra K. Wolfe and her husband, Woody of Danville PA
and Cindy L. Pursel of Riverside PA. He is also survived by 14
grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters; Shirley, Hazel and Betty and two brothers;
Bill and Bob. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Shoemaker
who passed away September 8, 1995 and one great-grandson, Cody William
Mordan. He was also preceded in death by two brothers; John and Archie and
two sisters; Mary and Edna Mae. One brother preceded him in death in
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Jim's Life to
be held Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's United
Methodist Church 240 Sunbury Road Riverside PA. Burial will be held in Odd
Fellows Cemetery Danville PA. Friends will be received from 6:00 - 8:00 PM
Wednesday evening at the church and from 9:45 - 10:45 AM Thursday at the
church. Military rites will be accorded by the American Post Legion 40
Honor Guard. The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may
be made to the church or Heart to Hand Ministries 733 E. Front Street
Danville PA 17821.
