Gordon J. Smart

Gordon J. Smart, 92, of 1310 Continental Blvd., Danville PA went to be with his Lord Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA.  He was born June 1, 1920 in Arnot PA the son of the late William B. and Ida C. Soderman Smart. 

He graduated from Blossburg High School in 1938 and from Williamsport Community College as a tool designer.  Mr. Smart served as a corporal in the United States Army during World War II landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day.  He served with the 29th Division 115th Infantry and the 3rd Battalion Machine Gun Group.  He was employed for 20 years by TRW in Danville PA and by Sprout Waldron in Muncy PA as a tool designer, retiring in 1985.   

Mr. Smart was a member of First Baptist Church Danville PA where he attended the Adult Fellowship Class.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, walking, gardening and lawn care. 

 He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marietta Williamson Smart whom he married April 27, 1946.  Also surviving is one son, James G. Smart of Miami FL and one daughter, Brenda J. Paden of Mentor OH.  He is also survived by his twin sister, Grace Payne of Owega NY and a sister, Lois Crain of Lakewood CA, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Leona Brooks. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Gordonís life to be held Monday, January 7, 2013 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church 20 Brookside Drive (off 642 East) Danville PA.  The Reverend Dr. Harry H. Wonderland and the Reverend Dawes Dunham will officiate.  Burial will be private in the Lutheran Cemetery Arnot PA.  Friends will be received 11:45 AM until 12:45 PM at the church.  The family will provide flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association PO Box 163549 Columbus OH  43216-3549 or to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund.  Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 West Mahoning Street Danville PA.  www.visneski.com
