Davis Shipe, 87, of 215 Church Street Danville PA stepped into the arms of
Christ on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Emmanuel Nursing Center Danville PA.
She was born February 16, 1925 in Danville PA, the daughter of the late
Harry and Blanche Feisler Davis. She was a lifelong resident of Danville,
except for the years of 1950-1951, when her husband, Gene, served with the
US Army with the Danville National Guard in Colorado Springs CO.
graduated from Danville Area High School on “D-Day” June 6, 1944. She was
employed by Geisinger Medical Center and for Nationwide Insurance.
was a lifelong member (from 2 weeks of age) of First Baptist Church Danville
PA where she served faithfully in the Senior Choir for over 60 years. She
joyfully served her church family with countless hours in numerous ways over
the years. She also enjoyed volunteering at Geisinger Medical Center with
her sister Janie as a patient escort for over 30 years. Doris especially
enjoyed bowling. She loved to travel, especially the adventurous cross
country drives with her husband, which included a round trip to Fairbanks,
Alaska on the Alcan Highway.
lived her life in full dedication and love to her children, grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. She loved fellowship with her friends with whom
she enjoyed a wide range of activities, always spreading good cheer and love
survived by her husband of 66 years, Eugene Reid Shipe whom she married
December 14, 1946. Also surviving are three sons; Joe Shipe and his wife
Judy of Danville PA; Mark Shipe and his wife Deborah of Milton PA and Matt
Shipe and his wife Christine of Danville PA and one daughter, Susan Cutler
and her husband Steven of Lititz PA. She is also survived by nine
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
five brothers and three sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Doris’s life to
be held Monday, January 14, 2013 at 12:30 PM at First Baptist Church 20
Brookside Drive (off 642 East) Danville PA with the Reverend Dr. Harry H.
Wonderland officiating and assisted by the Reverend Dawes Dunham. Burial
will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery
Annville PA at 11:30 AM. Friends will be received from 11:00 AM until 12:15
PM at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund
of the church or House of Care c/o Geisinger Medical Center 100 N. Academy
