Darlis L. Smith

Darlis L. Smith, 91, of Blue Bell Place, Blue Bell PA  where he had resided since 1999 passed away Monday evening, October 21, 2013 at his residence.  He formerly resided at the family homestead located in RD#1 Danville PA.  He was born August 15, 1922 in Danville PA the son of the late Roscoe and Ruth Keefer Smith. 

He served as a seaman in the United States Navy.  He was employed by KVS Danville PA, retiring in 1984.  Mr. Smith actively farmed his family homestead for many years.  He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church Danville PA. 

Mr. Smith enjoyed traveling and woodworking.  His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family whom he adored. 

He was married for 52 years to Martha E. Magill Smith who preceded him in death February 24, 1997.   

He is survived by one son, Lawrence L. Smith and his wife Kathleen of Swansboro NC and two daughters; Marilyn J. Smith of Washington DC and Jeanne A. Hartzell and her husband Scott of Lansdale PA.  Also surviving are four grandchildren; Todd Smith  and Courtney Smith Wine and Shawn and Brittany Hartzell.  He is also survived by two great-grandchildren; Carys and Macyn Wine. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church 306 Lombard Avenue Danville PA with the Reverend Edmund W. Minnich officiating assisted by the Reverend Rayvon Hilliard.  Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.  Friends will be received from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM at the church.  Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard.  Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association 57 N. Franklin Street Wilkes-Barre PA  18701-1309.
