Charles J. “Charlie” Pickin, Sr., 83, of 1804 Bloom Road Danville, PA,
passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Geisinger Medical Center
Danville, PA. He was born September 24, 1929 in Youngstown OH the son of
the late Frank and Josephine Lyons Pickin.
of the Catholic faith. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Danville,
PA. He was employed by The Danville News for over 50 years, where he began
his employment as a paperboy and worked his way up to Pressman, retiring in
1995. He also owned Thrifty Printing in Danville, PA. He worked at the
Bloomsburg Fair for many years as a parking lot attendant and at the
Mahoning Township voting polls. He was also a Volunteer Fireman for many
years. He recently donated an old printing press to the Mooresburg
Charlie loved photography. He enjoyed picking berries and sharing them with
many of his friends and family. Charlie was well known for his contagious
smile, sense of humor, and his famous quote, “I’ll see you again when you
are in better humor.” He adored his family.
married for 55 years to Geraldine M. “Gerry” Pickin who preceded him in
death November 20, 2007. He is survived by his sons Charles J. Pickin of
Plantation, FL, John W. Pickin of Shamokin, PA, and Ed Becton of Plantation,
FL and his daughters Tish A. Glasgow and her husband Jim of North Augusta,
SC; Mary J. Pickin of Danville and Kathy M. Scott and her husband, Charles
V., of Conneautville, PA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Matthew
Pickin, Jessica Amon and her husband David, Tressa, Keri, Alayna, Jordan and
Christian Scott and three brothers, Richard Pickin of Danville, PA, John
Pickin of Bloomsburg, PA and Joseph Pickin of Danville, PA. Also surviving
are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother,
William Pickin and his sisters Betty Pearson, Catherine Patton, and Mary
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Charlie’s Life
to be held Friday, March 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church 20
Brookside Drive (Off 642 East) Danville, PA with the Reverend Dr. Harry H.
Wonderland officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville,
PA. Friends will be received from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM at the church.
