Clara Jane Sutherland, 92, formerly of Kindt
Road Danville PA passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Emmanuel Nursing
Center at Maria Joseph Danville PA. She was born July 18, 1919 in Mausdale
PA the daughter of the late George W. and Lydia C. Kashner Kapp.
She graduated from Danville High School in
1939. During World War II, she was employed for two years in the
Photography Lab of the FBI in Washington DC. Clara was employed for 25
years as a psychiatric aide at Danville State Hospital Danville PA from
where she retired.
Clara was a member of St. James United Church
of Christ “Ridgeville” Danville PA. She was a member of the former St.
John’s United Church of Christ Mausdale PA where she served on the
consistory and sang in the choir. Her memberships also included the Senior
Citizens Bowling League, AFSCME and PARSE. She enjoyed bowling, knitting
and writing poetry.
She was married for 44 years to the late
George W. Sutherland who preceded her in death June 6, 1986. She is
survived by three sons; George W. Sutherland, Jr. and his wife Susanne of
Mainville PA; Larry L. Sutherland and his wife Cindy of Danville PA and Van
Rockie Sutherland and his wife Rebecca of Danville PA. Also surviving are
six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
five brothers; Henry, Wilbur, Eugene, Charles and Harold Kapp and four
sisters; Mary Kapp, Ethel McCaffrey, Elsie Koser and Grace Unger.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend
funeral services to be held Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 3:30 PM at St. James
United Church of Christ 2507 Bloom Road Danville PA with the Reverend
Richard J. Shearer officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery
Danville PA. Friends will be received from 2:00 PM until the time of
service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
