George V. Ackley

George V. Ackley, of 130 West Mahoning Street, Danville peacefully passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Susque-View Home in Lock Haven.  He was born June 5, 1933 in Danville, the son of the late John and Stache Ackley. 

He attended Danville High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy.  George was retired from Danville State Hospital where he was employed for 38 years as a Security Officer.  He was an avid fan of the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Philadelphia Phillies.  In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and going to yard sales.  He regularly attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Danville. 

He is survived by his partner of 11 years, Elsie Snyder.  Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary Lynne Strump whom he married in 1958.  Surviving are his children: two sons, Charles Ackley and his wife Shelley of Lock Haven, David Ackley and his wife Tina of Danville; and two daughters Elizabeth Petersen and her husband Robert of Northumberland, Anne Moyer and her husband Eric of Pittsburgh.  Also surviving are five grandsons: William Petersen, David Ackley II, Thomas Petersen, Kevin Ackley and Sam Moyer.  Two siblings survive him, Elenora Conrad of Danville and Paul Ackley of Middleburg, FL.  Preceding him in death were two siblings, Sarah Snyder and John H. Ackley, Jr. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life to be held Friday, August 10 at 11:00am at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 306 Lombard Avenue, Danville.  Friends and family will be received prior to the service beginning at 10:00am.  His family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.  A private interment will be held by the family.   Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 10 W.
