George D. "Chub" Young


March 21, 2012


George D. ďChubĒ Young, 88, of 400 West Mahoning Street Danville PA passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Emmanuel Nursing Center at Maria Joseph Danville PA.  He was born June 11, 1923 in Danville PA the son of the late Charles A. and Malvina L. Cousins Young. 

He graduated from Danville High School in 1941 and from Bloomsburg State Teacherís College with a degree in Education.  He later earned his Masterís degree from Kean University. He served with the United States Navy during World War II. 

 He was employed for 39 years as an Elementary teacher and Vice Principal at Central Elementary School in East Orange NJ from where he retired. 

Chub was a very active member of St. Paulís Emmanuel United Methodist Church Danville PA where he served as trustee, Sunday school treasurer and sang in the choir.  He also served on the Pastor Parish Relationship Committee, Education Committee and Finance Stewardship Committee.  Other memberships include American Legion Post 40 Danville PA; Danville Lions and he was associated with the Thomas Beaver Free Library Danville PA.   

He was an avid sports fan.  His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family and with his friends. 

He is survived by one sister, Dorothy Y. Burton of Philadelphia PA.  He was preceded in death by two brothers; Harold C. Young and Charles E. Young, Sr.  Also surviving are nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held next Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11:30 AM at St. Paulís Emmanuel United Methodist Church 305 Pine Street Danville PA with Pastor Greg Molter officiating.  Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA.  Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until 11:15 AM at the church.  Military rites will be accorded by the Montour County Veterans Association.  Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Thomas Beaver Free Library 205 Ferry Street Danville PA.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA.www.visneski.com
