Paula J. Daku

Paula J. Daku, 63, of 883 Point Township Drive Northumberland PA went into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA.  She was born September 2, 1947 in Sunbury PA the daughter of Nancy M. Troup Gelnett of Sunbury PA and the late Paul S. Gelnett, Jr.   

She graduated from Shikellamy High School in 1965.  She attended Houghton College in New York and graduated from Washington Bible College in Lanham, Maryland with a degree in Biblical Education in 1970 where she was inducted into the National Honor Society. 

Paula treasured her time with her family and was a devoted wife and homemaker.  Her life was centered on God and her family. 

She loved to read, and especially the Bible and writings about history.  She enjoyed walking every day, including walking the dog.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Danville PA where she served in the Nursery.  She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.  Paula also participated in Women’s Bible studies.  She served as a summer missionary with Child Evangelism Fellowship. 

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 41 years, David B. Daku whom she married May 30, 1970.  Also surviving are two sons; David P. Daku and his wife Ashleigh of Pahrump, Nevada and Jonathan A. Daku and his wife Lindsey of Philadelphia PA and two daughters; Bethany J. Treas and her husband Jared of Northumberland PA and Lynette L. Barnhart and her husband Phil of Danville PA.  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Paul S. Gelnett, III and his wife Maria of Chenango Forks, NY. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Paula’s Life to be held Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Danville PA with the Reverend Dawes Dunham officiating assisted by the Reverend David J. Mouw.  Friends will be received from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the church.  Burial will be held in the United Lutheran Church Cemetery at Wolf’s Crossroads, Route 890 Sunbury PA.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christian Counseling Services of Central PA., Inc. 883 Point Township Drive Northumberland PA  17857 or Good News Club 51 Oak Road Northumberland PA  17857.  Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA.  www.visneski.com
