Nancy D. Stamey, 82

October 3, 2011

Nancy D. Stamey, 82, of 20 Palmer Drive Danville PA passed away Sunday, October 2, 2011 at her residence after a courageous 15 year battle with lymphoma and leukemia.  She was born July 18, 1929 in Lewistown PA, the daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn Schaeffer Davis.

Nancy graduated from Lewistown High School, attended Hood College and graduated from George Washington University.  She was married to her high school sweetheart, Dr. Harry C. Stamey, former Medical Director at Geisinger Medical Center who preceded her in death on September 3, 1980.  They spent their early married life in Lewisburg PA and then settled in Danville in 1963.

She was formerly employed by ABC Travel, Danville and The First National Bank of Danville.  Nancy was a member of Grove Presbyterian Church.  Her other memberships included Frosty Valley Country Club and various bridge and social groups.

Nancy was dearly loved.  Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family whom she adored.  The joy she felt regarding her grandchildren was always obvious to everyone.  Nancy will be missed by all for her unending generosity and her widespread concern for others.  This was evidenced just recently by the fact that she specifically requested that her obituary include a heartfelt thank you to the entire Oncology Department at Geisinger for their incredible care for her.  Those who knew her were aware of her absolute love for life, her wonderful sense of humor…and her chocolate chip cookies.

She is survived by two sons:  Dan Stamey and his wife Cindy of Danville PA and Bill Stamey and his wife Judy of Hershey PA and one daughter, Ann Deveney and her husband Jim of Cedar Knolls, New Jersey.  Also surviving are nine grandchildren; Jake, Chelsey and Andy Stamey, Carly Grennes and her husband Bobby, Kyle Stamey, Allison Stamey, Greg Deveney and his wife RuthAnn, Becky Deveney, and Joe Deveney.  She is also survived by one sister, Peggy Marshall of Bella Vista, Arkansas and one sister-in-law, Lois Spear of Indianapolis Indiana.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held Saturday,  October 8, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Grove Presbyterian Church 330 Bloom Street Danville PA with her pastor the Reverend Dr. Robert J. Andrews officiating.  Friends will be received from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the Great Room at the church. The burial will be private and will be held at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Red Cross, Danville Chapter (for flood relief) 346 Mill Street Danville PA, Relay for Life – Danville PA www.relayforlife.org, Geisinger Home Health and Hospice 100 Academy Avenue MC-11 Danville PA  17822 or Grove Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
