Mary Jane "Jane" Buehner

September 4, 2018

Mary Jane “Jane” Buehner danced her last square dance the other night while a resident of Maria Hall Hospice. She was 87 years young. She was born on July 3, 1931 to Charles and Lucretia Nuss Derr at the family residence in the Second Ward of Danville Borough---she was a fifth generation Danvillian.

Jane lived long enough to see her namesake granddaughter Mary Jane Buehner marry Eamon Lenahan at the facility by her friend Judge Marvin Shrawder on August 22nd.

Jane and her late husband Robert W. Buehner, Sr. were members of the Dan-Jo Wheelers Square dance club and traveled the United States to attend square dancing conventions as well as dancing locally. She could cut quite a “do si do” with her many friends, but the Great Square Dance Caller decided it was time for her Earthly dance card to end on August 29th

In 1950 Jane married Robert W. Buehner Sr. and that union lasted 54 years until his passing in 2004. Jane and Bob produced three children: Robert, Jr. (Alice); Jack (Caryl Rae) and Molly Morgan Decoteau (David) and nine grandchildren: Mary Jane, Becky, Robin, Aimee, Megan, Rachael, Johna, Jacob, and Elizabeth.

Jane was a proud graduate of Coal Township High School. She worked at a sewing factory and Cole’s Hardware, but mostly spent her time as a grandmother to her nine grandchildren and volunteering. After the 1972 Agnes flood she spent a year as a Red Cross volunteer making food for flood victims. Thereafter, she and her friends formed a group Susque-Hands which provided help to needy members of the Danville community.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, her granddaughter Robin Buehner, sister Isabel Mausteller, step-grandmother Lillian Derr and a special companion Robert Miller.

The Buehner family wishes to express its deep appreciation to Geisinger Medical Center and its caring physicians Dr. Greg Burke, Dr. Fesniak, Dr. Bermudez, and the late Dr. Fred Pharr and the staff at Maria Hall for their exceptional care.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 10th at Mahoning Presbyterian Church, Ferry and Mahoning Streets in Danville at 12:00 PM with her pastor, the Reverend Graham Rogers officiating.   Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation beginning at 10:45 AM. until 11:45 AM

Memorial gifts are welcomed and can be made to the Mahoning Presbyterian Church, 352 Ferry Street, Danville PA 17821.

The Buehner family expresses its appreciation to her friends, the Visneski Family, for providing its professional services.  www.visneski.com
