Barbara S. Hartman, 91 , of 168 Horvath Drive Elysburg
PA and Emmanuel Nursing Center passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at
Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA surrounded by her family and pastor.
She was born June 19, 1919 in Berwick PA the daughter of the late Henry
Harrison and Christine Fahringer Straub.
She graduated from Berwick High School, Wyoming
Seminary and Bloomsburg University (formerly Bloomsburg State Teachers
College) in 1942.
She taught elementary school in the Berwick and
Shikshinny areas for a few years. She and her husband owned and operated
Hartman's Twin Kiss (now Heater's) in Riverside from 1964 to 1969. She was a
devoted mother and homemaker, an avid reader and knitted hundreds of
sweaters, scarves, afghans, etc. She previously lived in Riverside and
Sunbury RD prior to moving to Elysburg. Mrs. Hartman was a member of the
Oaklyn Independent Baptist Church Route 61 Sunbury PA where she taught
Sunday School for many years.
Mrs. Hartman is survived by her husband of 68 years,
Stuart L. Hartman whom she married November 19, 1942. Also surviving are
two sons; Thomas H. Hartman and his wife Kathy of Sunbury PA and Dan W.
Hartman and his wife Suzi of Danville PA. She is also survived by seven
grandchildren; David Hartman and his wife Helen; Michael Hartman, Joel
Hartman, Mark Hartman, Lora Hartman, Deanna Burgess Ziemba and Jonathan
Burgess and wife Samantha. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren
and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sons; James S.
Hartman in 1969, John A. Hartman in 1977 and Gary S. “Herbie” Hartman in
2001. She was also preceded in death by her brother and sister in law; F.
Stuart Straub and wife Thirley, and grandson Jeffrey Burgess.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral
services to be held Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Visneski Funeral Home 10 W
Mahoning Street Danville at 1:00 PM with Pastor Roy K. Clippinger
officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA.
Friends will be received from 11:00 AM until the time of service. The
family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Oaklyn
